Yoga: Music & Mantra
Ocean Yoga Presents
Music & Mantra
Follow Peter’s rich baritone voice on a meditative journey in Sanskrit mantra while Greg Barnett adds layers of groove and grounding with bass and guitar and Upendra Wrinkle brings in the either with his magical flute.
Composer, pianist, and singer Peter Alexander brings decades of experience to his spiritual practice and music. Having grown up among the redwoods of Northern California, his every breath is filled with a great reverence for the earth and all of its natural wonders. A lover of yoga and the ancient Sanskrit texts which reveal and inform it, he applies his musical talents to the understanding and experience of them. Peter believes that the potential for sound to penetrate and transform us is unlimited. This is why we sing!
Guitarist, bassist, composer, and producer Greg Barnett was led to kirtan when he realized the opportunity offered by music to be of service. He says, “The energy of the music we play onstage is absorbed by the audience members, who carry it away with them. We performers carry it also. So I play music that expresses love, joy, gratitude, and the Divine as beautifully as I can in the hope that we will all benefit.” He is dedicated to this practice.
Upendra Wrinkle Bay Area native Kirtan Flutist. Originally a jazz player, he met his Guru in 1984 and began listening to the Indian Bansuri (bamboo flute) masters. He spent seven years living in an ashram, where he has performed for his Guru in many public venues in a group setting and as a soloist. He brings together the improvisation style of his jazz roots, love of raga and his meditation practice. Playing C Concert Flute and Alto Flute, Upendra offers each moment of self-expressiveness to his Guru, listeners, and to Lord Krishna himself.
