Music: Caminos Flamencos
The groundbreaking flamenco company Caminos Flamencos has a brand new show that seamlessly blends flamenco, Latin, and jazz in music and dance with a cast of world-class artists from around the country who are rooted in a variety of musical genres. Emmy Award-winning Artistic Director Yaelisa gathers an eclectic group of musicians and dancers in "Nuevos Tendencias," with an emphasis on new music by the virtuoso guitarist Jason McGuire "El Rubio."
Caminos Flamencos is undeniably the leading and most innovative flamenco troupe on the West Coast, lead by Emmy Award-winning director Yaelisa and her virtuoso musical director/guitarist Jason McGuire “El Rubio.” Together they recently have pushed the envelope even further, creating the music and dance show “Nuevas Tendencias,” playing one night only at the Mildred Owen Concert Hall for Pacifica Performances on Saturday, March 14 at 7:30pm The show made its premiere last July at Yoshi’s Jazz Club in San Franciso to an enthusiastic crowd, and has since played at Yoshi’s Oakland, Angelica’s and The New Parish, all alternative venues with mostly jazz audience followers. The show truly innovates yet entertains audiences with its powerful musical direction by Jason McGuire, who has composed and arranged most of the music with the addition of upright bassist Paul Martin Sounder and Latin percussionist/drummer Marlon Aldana on drumset and cajon, once again showing their fans that they can play in a concert hall or a jazz/music club with the same fiery energy as any musical group, yet maintaining the essence and improvisational quality of a traditional flamenco dance performance. In another exciting note, the show and the Company are nominated for a prestigious Izzie Dance Award for Best Company.
The cast include guitarist Jason McGuire “El Rubio, Jose Blanco “El Grillo,” singer from Spain, Marlon Aldana, drumset/percussion, Paul Martin Sounder, upright bass, dancers Yaelisa, Melissa Cruz and Clara Rodriguez dancing AND singing in a show that showcases their talents. Yaelisa and her troupe are the most prolific flamenco troupe in the U.S. Their performances cover every arena of entertainment including television, orchestra symphonies, film, opera, festivals, and whose artists perform in the genres of jazz, Latin, rock, blues, classical, folk as well as being some of the best flamenco artists anywhere.
