March for Our Lives, Pacifica
March for Our Lives, Pacifica
On February 14th, 2018, Marjory Stoneman Douglas experienced a school shooting that took seventeen lives. On March 24th, the nation is showing their support for tighter gun laws and support towards the safety of students across the country. ‘March For Our Lives’ is an organization created by Emma Gonzáles, a survivor of the Parkland Shooting. Since the event, she has spoken about the safety of students and gun laws that would secure their safety. She and other MSD students have spoken against violence and hate, and we invite you to march with us in support of their cause. Please join us on Saturday, March 24, at 9:30 am in front of the Pacifica State Beach Taco Bell, as we join the kids and families of the seventeen victims by taking to the streets to demand that our lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today. We will be marching from Taco Bell to Rockaway Beach, same route as the Women's March. School safety is not a political issue. There cannot be two sides to doing everything in our power to ensure the lives and futures of children who are at risk of dying when they should be learning, playing, and growing. The mission and focus of March For Our Lives is to demand that a comprehensive and effective bill be immediately brought before Congress to address these gun issues. No special interest group, no political agenda is more critical than timely passage of legislation to effectively address the gun violence issues that are rampant in our country. We as students have the right to feel safe at school. This precious freedom, however, has been unjustly stripped from us, not only by those with violent intentions, but by our negligent lawmakers as well. As American citizens, we have the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which should be more important than anyone’s right to own any type of gun they want. Often forgotten in the chaos of our current political schism, we as teenagers have decided to be the change we want to see in the world and no longer stand idle in issues that directly affect us. We invite you to stand with us as supporters, advocates, and parents, because student safety should not be a partisan issue that serves only as a mechanism to further divide us. We are students, we are victims, but most importantly, we are activists, taking our fate into our own hands. Stand with us on March 24. Refuse to allow one more needless death.
Thank you. Tess Bartlett, Henry Lie, and Emily Then
