SUMMARY:Sanchez Art Center: 3 Artist Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:GARRY KNOX BENNETT - JEAN AND NORMAN MOORE'S COLLECTION OF LATIN AMERICAN ART - AND ART GUILD OF PACIFICA'S ANYTHING GOES \n\n\n\nArtist Talk: Sunday\, June 30th\, 4pm - Also at the Sanchez Art Center\n\n\n\nPacifica Sanchez Art Center\, the well established cornerstone of Pacifica's growing art scene\, is proud to present its next trio of exhibitions. \n\n-Garry Knox Bennett: Selected Works A Broad Spectrum\, 1963 2013 - Main Gallery\n\n-Art Guild of Pacifica's "Anything Goes" - West Gallery\,\n\n-Jean & Norman Moore Collection: Latin American Artists of the 60's & 70's - East Gallery. \n\n\n\nGarry Knox Bennett received his formal artistic training in painting and sculpture. It was a solid foundation to the individual development of more functional work and what is considered a fairly unique approach to furniture creation that includes a broad range of diverse material and the fabrication of his own hardware. This exhibition is not a retrospective\, but more a group of personal favorites chosen by Garry\, with the encouragement of his wife\, Sylvia\, and Curator and former CCAC classmate\, Phil Linhares. who states. Bennett ranks among the leaders of his generation of contemporary furniture makers and craftsmen of fine objects. It includes a selection of paintings and furniture\, including chairs\, tables\, and lamps\, and other works created over a fifty-year period\, also rare because it is one of the few exhibitions that offer early\, mid-career\, and recent works combined. Bennett's work is included in many private collections and the collections of several major museums This exhibition is a splendid opportunity for Bay Area art enthusiasts to view a broad range of Bennett's artistic areas of interest as the largest and most diverse collections of his work tend to be on the East Coast.\n\n\n\nSanchez Art Center\, in line with a long history of artistic contributions to Pacifica's community\, is proud to bring this visually exciting collection to the Bay Area and Pacifica\, Anything Goes. Either themed nor juried\, is the Art Guild of Pacifica's third show and halfway point in a year full of creative themes and Guild talent. It is open season for art\, wherein exhibitors can showcase work that just doesn't seem to fit in any other Guild theme. It is also the second show under the leadership of newly elected AGP president\, Michael Risenhoover. \n\n\n\nJean and Norman Moore's extensive collection of Latin American Art gathered in the 60's and 70's. Dedicated to deceased patriarch Norman\, this exhibition reflects a lifetime love of South America that goes back a generation with the book\, History of Latin America\, by Norman's father. Echoing work found in what was once San Francisco's Moore Galleries on Sutter Street\, opened by the Moore's in 1966\, the exhibition features the work of artists from Argentina\, Brazil\, Chile\, Colombia\, Haiti\, Mexico and Peru.
