SUMMARY:Rancho Day Fiesta
DESCRIPTION:The San Mateo County Historical Association Presents: \n\nRancho Day Fiesta!\n\n\n\nFamilies will enjoy early California music and \n\nparticipatory dancing. Rancho style \n\nrefreshments will be available. Demonstration of bygone trades and craft activities for children will be featured.\n\n\n\nFirst the Ohlone Indians occupied the area\, then came the Spanish Padres who both took advantage of the land richness to grow crops. Then came Don Francisco Sanchez who then built the actual Sanchez Adobe structure between 1842 to 1846.\n\n\n\nAfter Francisco Sanchez died\, General Edward Kirkpatrick purchased the adobe. He extended and remodeled the house and in 1908\, the adobe became the Hotel San Pedro. During Prohibition\, it became a speakeasy with whiskey stills hidden in the nearby artichoke fields. In 1947\, the County of San Mateo purchased the present five-acre Sanchez Adobe site. Restoration was completed in 1953. The San Mateo County Historical Association currently operates the site.\n\n\n\nA $1 suggested donation with additional charges for food and crafts. \n\n \nFor more information call 650-359-1462 or refer towww.historysmc.org.
