DESCRIPTION:Pacifica Performances Presents:\n\nThe Belly Dancing of Asia\n\nThis show is titled "Harem\, the World Behind the Veil\,"and is based on the book by Alev Lytle Croutier. The setting is the Topkapi Palace Harem. The show will feature 30 dancers and will focus on the rich background and cultural heritage that women brought with them into the Harem\, where they were often brought to after being taken prisoner\, sold in a slave market\, or being kidnapped. The dances reflect the many countries of the Middle East\, and the audience will get a glimpse of how the real tales of 1001 nights came to be\, directly from the harem as women embellished stories and tales of the home lands they missed. The show will feature lavish colorful costumes depicting the look of early 1800's. A musical tribute to John Bilezkjian is built into the show\, and features many beautiful pieces by John\, who recently passed away.
