SUMMARY:Art: 2015 LCA Awards
DESCRIPTION:The Sanchez Art Center Presents: \n\nThe 2015 LCA Awards Exhibition\n\n\n\nfeatures the lush oil paintings of Lydia Rae Black and the multilayered collage works of Lisa Hochstein. Black's focus is the past laid bare in images of abandoned and disused buildings. In this show\, which the artist titled Own\, we see the parts of life we no longer use\, and how much waste our culture produces. There is also a haunting beauty\, as if the people who inhabited these spaces are still present\, hovering in the air. Lisa Hochstein calls her show The Perfect City. Her collages range from intensively-labored works on wood panel\, to juxtapositions of found objects that have been minimally altered. Hochstein's work echoes a walk through the urban landscape\, with references to graffiti\, architecture\, and the debris of daily life.
